Finding God

By Sheila Rubin © 2011

As a child, I looked to the heavens to find You.

As a youth, I did not seek You.

Now I've found You in my heart.

The heavens did not reveal You .

In my youth, I did not seek You.

Now I feel Your Presence within my heart.

How did I not see You?

Why did I not seek You?

For now I see You everywhere.

In the flowers and the trees,

The gentle summer breeze,

The soft skin of a baby new

The trusting eyes of a child of two,

The warmth of a lover's hand

When you know he understands,

You are all around me,

Within and extending from me.

How did I not see You?

Why did I not seek You?

For now it is so plainly clear,

You are in all that I now hold dear.
